Saturday off!

Wow, a whole Saturday without a wedding!  And... it's almost over.  I do have one tomorrow though.  Ok, enough about that.

I've become bored with my web site, even though it's only two months old.  It's time for a remodel.  I've put a little time into it so far and it should be ready for unveiling in a week or two (maybe sooner, who knows!).

2007 Highlights

I decided to put together a tribute of sorts to all my brides and grooms from 2007.  I like it so much I made it a permanent entry in the menu!  Please take a look!

Ventriloquist Mark James

I know what you're thinking, "Brian, you're a wedding  photographer.  What's up with the ventriloquist?"  Mark is a friend and loyal customer.  I've done most of his photography for the last few years.  He is hysterical!  The biggest problem I have with shooting for him is I can't stop laughing long enough to see through the viewfinder of my camera!  Here's some shots from our session:

I would like to make an introduction.....

I wanted to introduce someone very special to my photography.  She is a great asset to me being able to do what I do, and she's a lot of fun to work with.  Everybody meet my assistant Jessica.  She'll be with me at most weddings helping me and probably shooting a little as well.

Just got a new toy

Many of you may be surprised to find out that though I'm a digital photographer and avid Photoshop and Corel Painter user, I'm not a true "techie".  My VCR still blinks 12:00, if you know what I mean.  Anyway, my wife Kristen and I decided to get iphones for Valentine's Day.  WHOAH!  What an incredible piece of technology!  So, now I can respond to e-mails anywhere I happen to be and hopefully I can keep in touch with everyone better than ever before!

Just thought you'd like to know....

TAPPA Print Competition

If you're a regular around here you probably know that I compete with photographs and albums against other professionals in the area.  Well, last night kicked off the competition season.  Wow, what a turnout!  There had to be 60 entries!  They have different categories:  Portrait, Social Function, Unclassified, Electronic Imaging, and Storybook.  There's also a monthly assignment themed category.  Each member can submit a maximum of 6 pieces per competition.

Here's an explanation of the categories:

Portrait--Pretty simple, photos of 1 person or groups of people, normally done under controlled conditions and some are in a studio

Social Function--Any photo taken at a social event, weddings, bar & batmitzvas, parties, etc

Unclassified--Basically, anything that doesn't fit any other category

Electronic Imaging--This is new.  You show before and after photos of highly edited images.  This one is about Photoshop and other digital skills, not so much the photographs themselves

Storybook--Albums of all kinds, the only rule is they should tell a story.

Assignment--This one is different, it's aimed to students with a different theme every time and they're unmounted 8x10 prints

All the other categories are 16"x20" prints.  Electronic Imaging can be 20"x24" prints.  So this is pretty serious stuff.  Those prints aren't cheap!

Ok, now for the results of last night!

Coming off of last years "big win", I had a major target on my back.  It seems everybody wants to beat me now.  GOOD!  If everybody plays, everybody gets better, that can only help us all!  I had to make a good showing to "keep up the rep", you know?

Alright, the suspense is killing me.......

Portrait--3rd Place, I'm ok with this, there were lots of great prints.

Electronic Imaging-3rd Place, this is a totally new category this competition.  It was a huge success and again, lots of good images.

Social Function--FIRST AND SECOND PLACE!  OK, this is MY category, where my heart is.  This is the one I really have to do well in.

So far, not a bad start to the year.  Only 9 more competitions to go!

Sarabeth & John

On Friday I had the priveledge to create some very important photographs during a special photoshoot.  Sarabeth and John were married on December 30th, 2007.  Sorry, but I didn't get that job.  They were, how shall we say, less than thrilled with their photographs from another photographer (who shall remain unnamed).  So, Sara's Mom, Kathryn called me up to see if I could help.  They got back in their Wedding Day garb and we went to the Tampa Club and Plant Park and had a great time re-creating the memories that were not so gracefully captured the first time around.  For me, it was awesome!  2 1/2 straight hours with a gorgeous bride and groom with no, well, almost no distractions?  It's a wedding photog's dream!  Here's some shots from the day:

Hana & Gerald

Tuesday night I had the opportunity to photograph a great couple's engagement photos.  Hana & Gerald are possibly the nicest couple I've ever met (no offense to all my other amazing, wonderful couples!).  We went out to Sand Key just before sunset and had a great time.  Here's some images from their photoshoot.
